Rebecca
Struthers
Watchmaker / Author
Born and raised in Birmingham, Rebecca was just 17 when she started her watchmaking journey. Initially training as a jeweller and silversmith with a passion for creating complex pieces of articulated jewellery; Rebecca soon found a way to combine her interest in making with her love of science in the pursuit of horology.
Rebecca’s passion for education has continued alongside watchmaking throughout her career. In 2017, this led to her becoming the first watchmaker in British history to earn a PhD in her field. Her area of expertise, which covers the development of the watch industry in Europe through the 18th and 19th centuries, informs the production journey each Struthers watch takes today.

When she’s not leading the research, design, development, and finishing of the Struthers’ watches, Rebecca is a keen historian, writer, presenter, and published author. Her first book, Hands of Time, was released to critical acclaim and became a BBC Radio 4 Book of the Week and instant Indie Bookshop bestseller.

Her follow-up book for children, About Time, teaches curriculum science and history using watchmaking as its guide and was published with Dorling Kindersley in 2025. Her work has been translated into 11 languages and counting. For more information and updates about Rebecca’s writing and media work please visit www.rebeccastruthers.co.uk.
